Role: Instructional Designer & Content Creator
Tool: Canva (Animation & Video Editing)
Format: 30-Second Microlearning Video
Goal: To provide a visual "anchor" for Thompson’s bagging standards by contrasting improper techniques with the organization's ideal state.
In the fast-paced retail environment of Thompson’s Grocery Market, new associates often prioritize speed over structure. Written manuals effectively describe "The Foundation" and "The Attic" layers, but they lack the immediate visual impact needed to show why these standards matter. The challenge was to create a "just-in-time" learning asset that could be consumed in under a minute during a shift or on a mobile device.
I designed a high-impact "Chaos vs. Calm" comparison video. This micro-asset acts as a performance support tool, using visual storytelling to trigger an emotional and logical response in the learner.
The Chaos: Shows the common pitfalls—overloaded bags, fragile items crushed at the bottom, and disorganized layouts that lead to customer frustration.
The Calm: Demonstrates the Thompson-standard bag—perfectly tiered, structurally sound, and organized for a premium customer experience.
Cognitive Load Reduction: By stripping away text and focusing on a side-by-side visual comparison, the video delivers a clear message without overwhelming the learner.
Micro-Nudge Strategy: This asset was designed to be shared via team communication apps (like Slack or Crew) or displayed on breakroom screens as a constant visual reminder of quality standards.
Asset Design: I utilized Canva to create custom animations that emphasize the physical weight and stability of the "Calm" bag versus the instability of the "Chaos" bag.
Immediate Recall: Serves as a 30-second refresher that associates can view right before heading to the floor.
Visual Standardization: Created a "mental model" for what a perfect bag looks like, leading to a more consistent brand image across different shifts.
Engagement: Achieved higher engagement rates than traditional training documents due to its concise, visually driven format.
